The majority of recipients still train with us and they are noted below.
The few who left karate are recorded on the right of this page for
2011 Adult - Chris Chapman
has worked exceptionally hard this past year to develop her skills. She has
generally attended 3 classes a week in karate plus weapons. Add to that
some private lessons and helping with a bit of coaching and I think you can
see the reason for her award.
2011 Child - Oliver Hill
trains two lessons a week , one at Laddingford and the other at West
Malling. He always puts a maximum of effort into his karate and in class is
attentive and often better behaved than his seniors.
2010 Adult - Ralph Spence
joined our clubs after a break from karate and quickly formed part of the
team demonstrating positive attitude and excellent spirit both in his
personal karate and in helping others.
2010 Child - Ruth Smith-Burr
joined our West Malling club as s novice and has worked her way up to 1kyu.
She often helps coaching the children's class and never demonstrates less
than maximum effort and focus during her class.
2009 Adult - Paco Cayuela
has trained with us since white belt, initially in another club, and in mid
kyu grades joined shin-gi-tai.
He conducts warm ups on Monday nights and often assist with coaching. He
also attends all workshops where possible and supports the club the best he
2009 Child - Kieran Russell
Kieran was given this award in recognition of his perseverance in learning
2008 Adult - Russell Dewhurst
worked his way through to black belt in quick time and has used his ability
to quickly remember forms to assist others in learning too. A very helpful
voice at public events and parties and always willing to help get students
to workshops and do that extra bit for the club.
2007 Adult - Simon Buck
joined our clubs when we took over a small club in Larkfield when the
current group decided to close it. This was a very short term situation and
he soon moved to our West Malling classes and continued his studies.
He often attends the Grove green club (running
permitting) and shares a common interest
with other club members in motorcycling. He also
authors some interesting articles for our
Simon has also studied Kenjutsu and some basic
Kobudo with us.
2007 Child - Daniel Redman
has trained with us since white belt grade and has committed a lot of
effort and time into developing his skills. Dedicated and hard working
student who is a pleasure to have in the class.
In 2012 he attained his full children's Shodan grade.
2006 Adult - Tony Baldock
joined our club after completing a few grades in another club and has now
progressed through his Shodan grade and was planning to attempt Nidan in
2011 until a serious Judo injury stopped him from training.
2005 Child - James Weber
joined us as an ex Wado ryu mudansha and continued his studies
through the children's system and then into the adult class where he has
attained the grade of Shodan before going to university.
He is a regular assistant at Grove green in
teaching the children when on university
holidays and supports the club wherever possible
